We are delighted to announce that Dr Olga Tzatzadaki, Postdoctoral Researcher at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, will be a keynote speaker at the 8th SPACE International Conference on Sustainable Architecture, Planning and Urban Design, taking place in London on 5–6 June 2025 under the theme:
“Circular Urbanism: Pathways to Sustainable Development.”
The 2025 conference will explore the transformative potential of circular urbanism in building sustainable and resilient cities. As the world faces mounting challenges from climate change, resource depletion, and population pressures, the concept of circular urbanism offers a regenerative approach—integrating the principles of the circular economy into urban design and planning.
Dr Tzatzadaki brings a wealth of interdisciplinary expertise across urban planning, sociology, and cultural policy. Her research as part of the iNEST project (Spoke 6: Tourism, Culture, and Creative Industries) focuses on social innovation in tourism and community-led cultural heritage in areas grappling with overtourism and depopulation. She previously taught Urban Sociology at IUAV University and works extensively on participatory planning processes in Italy and Greece.
Her keynote address, titled:
Micro-Regeneration and Cultural Resilience in Overtouristed Venice: Local Actors as Drivers of Sustainable Change
…will examine how local artisans, small businesses, and cultural entrepreneurs in Venice are leading micro-regeneration efforts to create a more culturally resilient and inclusive urban future. Drawing on interviews and in-depth case studies, Dr Tzatzadaki will highlight the critical role of grassroots actors in shaping sustainable urban change.
She will also co-facilitate the following interactive workshop:
Inclusive Urban Design: Collaborative Pathways to Urban Inclusivity
With Dr Anahita Malek, Buckinghamshire New University
This 1-hour workshop will explore actionable strategies for embedding inclusivity in urban planning through social innovation, community engagement, and cultural responsiveness. Participants will take part in hands-on exercises and peer discussions, gaining practical tools to apply in diverse urban contexts.
Join us in London—onsite or online—for what promises to be a powerful and inspiring contribution to the conversation on sustainable urban futures at the SPACE International Conference 2025 on Sustainable Architecture Planning and Urban Design.
