SPACE Studies is pleased to announce the SPACE Studies Autumn Conference Series 2026, bringing together four international conferences across interconnected themes of the built environment.
While topics such as housing, planning, sustainability, and culture are often addressed separately, they are deeply interconnected in practice. This year, our annual conferences have been intentionally structured as a coordinated programme to open up a broader, cross-disciplinary conversation across research, policy, and practice.
The Autumn 2026 programme includes:
Sustainable Architecture, Planning and Urban Design
Designing Sustainable Futures: Strategies, Innovations, and Transformations
Architectural Culture and Society
Negotiating Social Futures, Identity, and the Politics of Space
City Planning and Urban Design
Reimagining Urban Futures: Planning, Governance, and Inclusive Cities
Housing
Reimagining Housing: Design, Policy, and Social Futures
A Connected Programme
Each conference is designed to stand independently while contributing to a larger shared dialogue. Together, they explore key questions shaping the built environment today — from governance and infrastructure to housing systems, cultural dynamics, and environmental transformation.
The series creates a platform for academics, practitioners, policymakers, and industry professionals to engage, exchange ideas, and contribute to ongoing discussions around urban futures.
Format and Participation
All conferences will be delivered in a hybrid format, combining:
- in-person participation in London
• online participation for international accessibility
Submissions are now open across all conferences.
Participants are invited to contribute through:
- research papers
• showcases and practice-based work
• curated sessions and interdisciplinary formats
Attendees are also welcome to join the discussions and engage with the programme.
Looking Ahead
The Autumn Conference Series 2026 reflects SPACE Studies’ ongoing commitment to connecting research, policy, and practice across the built environment.
By bringing these themes together, the programme aims to support more integrated, inclusive, and forward-looking conversations on cities and spatial futures.
