At SPACE Studies, we believe that today’s urban challenges cannot be solved in isolation. The future of smart cities depends not only on technological innovation, but also on cultural understanding, inclusive design, and critical thinking. That’s why we’re launching two interconnected conferences this December as part of a shared international event — each with its own theme, but united by a common goal.
The SPACE International Conference on Architectural Culture and Society and the SPACE International Conference on City Planning and Urban Design will come together in a joint online format, featuring a rich mix of separate sessions, collaborative panels, and shared keynote events. This structure allows us to explore smart cities from different but complementary angles — from the cultural and social dimensions of architecture to the policy, planning, and digital infrastructure shaping our urban futures.
By creating space for overlap and exchange, we aim to spark deeper insights and cross-disciplinary dialogue around the real challenges of urban life in the age of smart technologies.
📣 Please note: The City Planning and Urban Design Conference was previously announced and is now being re-announced with updated dates for December 2025.
In response to growing interest in the cultural dimensions of urban transformation, we’ve also introduced a new companion event — the Architectural Culture and Society Conference.
While each conference maintains its own focus, they are designed to complement one another — offering a unique opportunity to explore smart cities from multiple angles, including policy, culture, digital governance, and design ethics.
Together, they form one interconnected conversation — and we invite you to contribute to both.
Call for Papers: Architectural Culture and Society Conference

Theme: Beyond Efficiency — Architecture, Culture, and the Human Experience in Smart Cities
This conference focuses on how architecture shapes and reflects our cultural identities, values, and lived experiences — especially as cities evolve under the influence of “smart” technologies. We invite contributions that critically explore the intersection of design, culture, and the urban condition in an increasingly digital world.
Call for Papers: City Planning and Urban Design Conference

Theme: The Smart City Paradox — Innovation, Privacy & Equity
This conference tackles the tensions within smart city development — how do we balance technological innovation with concerns about privacy, ethics, and inclusivity? We welcome submissions that interrogate the promises and pitfalls of digital urbanism, from policy to infrastructure, participation to data justice.
